Organizing Your Home to Just Feel Better

All of us want to have a clean home. Some days, organizing your home is easier to accomplish than others! It’s hard to vacuum, dust, and clean when your home is filled with too much “stuff”. When there’s clutter and disorganization in every room, it can feel overwhelming to say the least. We’ve got some tips to help you with your home organization. Dollies & Boxes Unlimited has boxes for every room in the house, whether you are looking to store items to be used later, donate items, or just simply “get organized”. Here are some ideas to get you motivated based on Peter Walsh’s recommendations and friend of Oprah Winfrey:

Tackle one room at a time. Do you have a home office that needs a good re-organization? The 1.5 Cube Box works great for storing reference books you’ve read or want to donate. Other boxes, in a wide variety of sizes, can help you store your office-related supplies that you may or may not use on a regular basis. Our file boxes are ideal for keeping records stored, but not in the way, on a day-to-day basis.

Wardrobe boxes, also in several sizes, can help you organize the bedroom closet, making the master suite a relaxing retreat instead of a cluttered mess! For growing children, wardrobe boxes are often used to organize kid’s clothing, transitioning the small and outdated outfits out, making room for the new clothes that fit.

It’s also a good rule of thumb to ask yourself if you really need that item you want to buy. If you hesitate, it’s probably not the best purchase. However, if you go ahead and buy that 6th winter coat, it’s probably time to sell the old one, donate it, or pass it on to a friend that needs one. If you get rid of an old item for every new one, you’ll be on your way to mastering the art of home organizing.

Organize the “soul” of the home: the kitchen. Peter Walsh also believes in organizing the kitchen triangle. The kitchen triangle is the area between the stove, refrigerator and the kitchen sink. If you have collected too many items and utensils over the years, try the cardboard box test. Here’s what you can do: take all of the utensils out of the kitchen drawers and place in a cardboard box for a month. Throughout that month, if you need something take it from the box and then after using it, place it back in the drawer. After that month you will see what you need to keep and what you may want to store.
